Project Name:
Senior Application and Environment Support for Multiple Ministries.

Project Overview
This position provides critical technical expertise to support the maintenance and modernization of legacy applications developed across a broad variety of platforms over the past three decades. It requires a robust familiarity with different development methodologies, combined with the capacity to analyze and adapt to develop styles/strategies that were not aligned with typical IT development patterns.
This position will liaise with technical experts across the company, and the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with other IT professionals is critical. This is particularly important with large cross-government solutions which integrate a variety of technologies to achieve their objectives.
For example, the Action Request Tracking System (ARTS) is a web-based ASP Classic application used to create, route and track action requests (ARs) initiated from both external clients (public) and internal ones (Minister s Office, Deputy Minister s Office, Divisions and branches). An Action Request, or AR, is a request for action to be taken in response to a request or issue that needs to be addressed. The system implements all aspects of the IT environment including network storage, server load balancing, database management, integration services (SSIS), ADS security, web presentation, website security and DNS management. The continued effective operation of the ARTS solution requires the optimization of all these and other IT components, and the resource must not only understand these issues, but also be able to effectively work with the teams that manage these features across the GoA information technology community.
The resource will be working as a Technical Analyst for Application Maintenance Services as part of TSO BTO, providing advanced technical support to other IT professionals, helping them to maximize the impact and effectiveness of their solutions and services.
We are a Microsoft environment. Experience with .NET and SQL Server is required. The resource will be assigned to TSO PSC/SARTR Portfolio Delivery. However, this role may be reassigned to work in other business areas as required.



Duties:
Responsible for taking business requirements and translating them into technical requirements and solutions.
Engage and consult with application stakeholders to:
Assist in problem resolution and provide general support;
Gather information about their applications;
o Review of code and database designs for existing application to identify solutions to issues
o Documentation of application functions
Communicate effectively to staff with varying levels of systems and technical understanding.
o Escalate issues and risks, as appropriate.

Work cooperatively with other IT professionals to:
Perform analytical, planning, organizational, evaluation, and problem-solving.
o Detect and address problems, independently and working with other specialists.
Work within a multi-vendor/staff environment.
o Adjust communication methods and patterns to match audience.

Support the ongoing improvement and modernization of  the companies applications and systems:
Participate in routine assessments of applications for compatibility with new operating systems and cloud solutions.
Coordinate testing of applications for security and reliability.
o Identify potential risks, create policies and procedures to reduce them, and implement contingency plans including the preparation of applications for disaster recovery.
o Develop backup strategies to ensure application recoverability.
Updating software releases as required, including the testing and implementation of new operating system releases.
o Supporting the acceptance testing and production environments.
Adhere to quality assurance guidelines and maintain quality assurance on all deliverables.
o Controlling and securing business application source code, executable load modules and business application data.
Maintain migration documentation that incorporates operating procedures, standards and guidelines.


Support COTS/SaaS solutions for the business areas
Deploys vendor supplied code in multi-tier environments
o Installs, configures and maintains application infrastructure software
Patches and upgrades middle tier and COTS applications as needed
Researches and analyzes industry trends and new products
Performs routine maintenance to ensure optimal middle-tier performance

Support a high level of service availability:
Provide on-call support on an as-needed basis.
Be able to work in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision.
Status reporting to the Manager as required;

Equipment Requirements:
Resource will require own equipment

Resource must provide their own computer and related equipment. The computer's operating system must be a modern version of Windows or MacOS that is compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and related software for remote access. Windows is preferred due to better compatibility. AVD/remote-related software will be installed on the resource's computer.

The Contractor s resources are directed to work remotely, the Contractor shall be responsible for providing all of its equipment, including computers, software, printers, supplies, desks and chairs. However, the Province shall ensure that the Contractor s resources have the necessary access and credentials to the companies system.


Working Hours:
Standard Hours of work are 08: 15 16: 30 Alberta time, Monday through Friday excluding holidays observed by the Province
Work must be done from within Canada, due to network and data security issues.
It is anticipated the role will be primarily remote, however in the event of an onsite meeting, the company does not pay for travel to attend on-site meetings, nor any expenses related to relocation, commuting, housing/accommodation, food/drink.

Notes on Location:
This resource will primarily work remotely; however, the resource may be required to attend meetings or work sessions in office on reasonable notice from the Province. At the time of providing such notice, the Province will advise of the expected duration of any such meetings or work sessions. However, time to travel and any associated expenses to and from Edmonton and/or travel within Alberta will be at no cost to the Province.
The resource is expected to attend staff events 4 times a year, with occasional in-person meetings with the business 2-3 times a year.

Mandatory Training Courses:
Once hired the resource will be required to complete all mandatory training which includes but not limited to Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and Security awareness training. There may also be some optional courses as well.
