Schedule:

5 days a week, 8-hour days (40 hours/wk). Travel to Kitimat once a month for 1 week



Contract Term:

18 months possible extension



About the Role

The Environment Technologist is a member of the Process Technology team. This is a key position on the team, who will be providing subject matter expertise and engineering support for compliance, permitting, environmental reporting and focused projects and initiatives across the asset to maintain our license to operate. The Environment Technologist is expected to demonstrate knowledge to skill level understanding of environmental risk areas to:

  • Ensure compliance management systems are established and implemented to meet applicable environmental and company regulatory requirements,



  • Understand business drivers to develop and deliver high quality, fit for purpose mitigations/improvements in addressing environmental risk areas, in a few of the following areas: GHG wastewater/water quality, air quality, pollutant dispersion, estimation, measurement, waste control and/or related impact assessment processes.



  • Co-lead with GHG and energy management focal GHG emission inventory tracking and reporting and provide technical guidance to existing environmental programs.



  • Identify and progress environment opportunities and improvements across asset using the appropriate work processes MTO, MOC, Project Delivery, ME, etc.



  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, e.G., Operations, Business Group, Corporate Relations, Regulators, NGOs, and community) to deliver environment opportunities and risk management.



  • Support existing environmental programs and contribute to license to operate requirements



  • Build and operationalize tracking and reporting tools to meet requirements in air and water pemits. This includes being able to do conversion for air and water pollutants from ppm (CEMS) to volumes



  • Preparing and reviewing monthly, quarterly and yearly reports to the government in collaboration with the environment and instrumentation team.



  • Competencies in data validation and reconciliation, including being able to look at plant process data and complete data validation by ensuring that any erroneous data is filtered out in reporting and replaced with an appropriate engineering estimate



  • Provide recommendations on the application of relevant internal standards, technical aspects of legislative requirements, and external standards & policy; partner with Corporate Relations as Regulatory & Permitting focal point on current and emerging regulations and policies.



  • Participate in external verification for Compliance & Assurance on Environment related standards, e.G., ISO 14001 and GHG emissions reporting.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Advice on technological services to meet business principles and objectives, including environmental performance, monitoring, testing and process optimizations.



  • Build and nurture a close working relationship with other Technical and engineering SMEs through networking and execution of studies and projects.



  • Develop tools & keep abreast of new technologies and drive case for change that will improve environmental performance.



  • Build and optimize effective liaison with process technology, environmental, digital, operations and engineering teams. Closely interact with the laboratory to ensure methods, limits and sample schedule provide the correct feedback for supporting production, engineering and various process test-runs.



  • Ensure state-of-the-art methods and tools are available for the required internal and external environmental reporting.





To be successful, you will have:

  • P. Eng. In relevant engineering (e.G., Chemical, Process, or Environmental).



  • At least 10 years of relevant technical experience, preferably at or associated with an Operating Site.



  • Excellent facilitation skills and the ability to influence others.



  • Able to manage multiple projects with multi-disciplined teams.



  • Preference will be for a candidate with knowledge of Carbon Intensity, Life Cycle Analysis, GHG emissions control technology, assessment and design use.



  • Knowledge of Provincial and Federal Low Carbon/GHG Regulations



  • Knowledge of how we seek to integrate Environmental risk management into the way we do business.



  • Understanding on how we seek to achieve Energy Efficiency and GHG abatement in our current operations and future projects.



  • Experience of working independently and as part of a team on projects to address environmental issues.



  • In addition to technical excellence, this role requires strong ability to business partner, coach and develop, deliver change management, and facilitate and intervene. The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership attributes aligned with Leadership Experience.



  • Wider appreciation of Gas business processes and principles and experience in a Major Gas/LNG Project is an advantage.



  • Sound systematic approach to technical and multi-disciplinary challenges.



  • Strong analytical abilities having knowledge of process engineering tools and facility value drivers knowhow.



  • Ability to contribute to decision support and assurance as well as carrying out hands on technical evaluations.



  • Communicate with internal and external interfaces with strong spoken and written communication skills.





This role requires that you:

  • The position will be initially resourced for 18 months post which a decision will be made for permanent position.



  • This role will be based in Calgary, BC. Travel to Kitimat once a month for 1 week is expected.



  • Normal working pattern 8 hrs/day 5 days a week.



  • No overtime prior to approval by company team leader.



  • Start-date of position (ASAP).



  • Are willing to comply with drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures.



  • Undergo a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, a background check and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs.

Pay Range:

The pay range for this position is $75-82 per hour; however, the pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This pay information is being provided pursuant to applicable law and is based in part on market location.
